PayPal is an online transactional facility that enables you to receive credit card payments immediately from your customers. Once a customer has chosen to buy an item(s) from your shopping cart, Storbie takes them through a checkout process and then redirects them to PayPal to make the purchase. The customer is then returned to your site once the sale is complete.

Your customers' experience:

You can easily transfer money from your PayPal account to another online bank account at any stage. Or you can use your PayPal balance for your own online purchasing, including your monthly subscription to Storbie.

PayPal is free to set up and only charges a small base + percentage transaction fee. This fee varies from time to time. For information on PayPal fees visit https://www.paypal.com/nz/fees
PayPal Account Details
In the Payment Methods page in the Manage area of your site you can access the PayPal account details page as shown below. There are things you must do in order to have PayPal set up and integrated with your site. You can set up a PayPal account at any stage, even if your shop isn’t complete.

  1. Set up a Paypal Business Account: When you click ‘Set up my PayPal account now’ link you will then be automatically taken to the PayPal website. (See related section below).
  2. Set up instant Payment notification: This enables your PayPal account to ‘talk’ to Storbie so that your Storbie site can receive purchase information from PayPal. (See related section below).
  3. Set up the character encoding: This adds support to PayPal for customers with international characters in their name (e.g. é)
  4. Enter your PayPal account: This completes the integration.

Setting your PayPal account to connect to Storbie (IPN)
After one of your customers completes the checkout within your Storbie shop, they are sent to PayPal to enter their payment information. Storbie has no visibility of what the customer does once they enter PayPal. It is important that PayPal not only informs Storbie whether a payment has been completed, but keeps Storbie up to date with any changes to the payment’s status, such as when the payment has cleared from the customer’s account. That way, the order can be correctly displayed within your shop’s management area and Storbie can ensure that the correct payment was made.
PayPal also needs to send Storbie the customer’s contact details so Storbie can display them to you and print them on your sales invoices etc. PayPal will never send Storbie your customer’s credit card number.

In order to get PayPal to send the required information to Storbie, you need to do the following:
  1. Log into your PayPal business account
  2. Click on the Account Name icon in the upper right-hand corner and then select Account Settings
  3. Click Notifications on the left.
  4.  Click Update next to the Instant payment notifications item.
  5. Click ‘Choose IPN Settings’.
  6. Copy/paste the following URL into the textbox (this must be entered exactly):
    https://www.storbie.com/callback/paypal/ipn

Make sure that ‘Receive IPN messages’ is selected and click Save.

  7. Ensure that the confirmation screen says that Instant Payment Notification (IPN) is now “on” and that the URL is correct.
Set the Correct Character Encoding
A further change is required inside your PayPal account to fully support customers with international characters in their names. e.g. accented and Chinese characters.
  1. While logged in to your PayPal account, click the link below:
    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_profile-language-encoding
  2. Click More Options.
  3. Then select UTF-8 in the Encoding drop down.
  4. Ensure that Yes is selected for the question: ‘Do you want to use the same encoding for data sent from PayPal to you (e.g., IPN, downloadable logs, emails)?’

  5. Click Save.
Adding your PayPal Details to Storbie
Your PayPal account is now ready to be connected to your Storbie shop.
